Frequently Asked Questions

Why did you change your name from DreamSacks to Yala®?

Fifteen years ago when we introduced our first product, the DreamSack, a silk sleeping bag for travel, we hadn’t imagined the changes our business would take. Now with the success of our BambooDreams® line as well as our bedding, clothing, and travel products, the name DreamSacks® no longer represents our entire range.

What does Yala® mean?

We were drawn to the name Yala because it has many meanings that, together, support our way of life. There are geographical references to Yala around the world: a province in Thailand, a river in Africa, an indigenous area in Panama. We like the global nature of the word. We think of Yala® as a word that embraces a full, loving, passionate life. It is also fun to say.

Do you still make the DreamSack®?

The DreamSack® is the product that launched us in 1996 and it is still a product that is very popular so YES, the DreamSack® will remain an essential part of our business.

Why is the bamboo fiber called viscose from bamboo?

Viscose refers to the process of turning the bamboo pulp into fiber by dissolving it in solvent and spinning the solution. The processing plant that makes the fiber uses a closed loop system. That means up to 98% of the water and chemicals are captured and reused. The result is a fiber with a very soft handfeel and a lovely drape.

Are there any residual chemicals in the fabric?

BambooDreams fiber is Oeko-Tex 100 certified which means that there are no residual chemicals in the fiber that could be harmful to humans including babies. To see the certificate, click here. Bedding is often finished with chemical finishing agent that prevent wrinkles. We have chosen not to use any finishing agents on our bedding. To reduce wrinkles naturally, pull your sheets our of the dryer immediately and smooth them out as you fold them. There may be a few wrinkles leftover, but we think it is worth it.

What kinds of dyes are used in your products?

The dyes used in our products are non toxic and AZO free. The dyes in our products meet European standards, which are higher than US standards (European Commission directive 76-769EEC). This means that our products are free from formaldehyde and other harmful chemicals. BambooDreams fiber is Oeko-Tex 100 certified which means that there are no residual chemicals in the fiber that could be harmful to humans including babies. To see the certificate, click here.

Are there chemicals used in the sizing of your products?

We have chosen not to add sizing to our products. Some companies add fabric sizing to their textiles to give them more body and to prevent wrinkling. Some sizing materials contain very strong chemicals, and for this reason we don't use sizing.

Are your products safe for the highly allergic or chemically sensitive?

Many highly allergic and chemically sensitive people have used our products. Our silk DreamSack helps those with allergies or chemical sensitivities travel with comfort. However, because sensitivities can vary so much, we suggest you purchase a small item to test for allergies before you purchase. We also have fabric swatches available, if this would be helpful to you.

Does viscose from bamboo pill?

Pilling, the formation of small, fuzzy balls on the surface of a fabric, can sometimes occur with natural fibers. It is usually caused by friction or wear. Prevent pilling by being aware of friction with rough fabrics such as handbags and sweaters. Wash clothing inside out and hang or lay flat to dry. Many times the pills will fall off on the next washing. Wash separately from other items.

How durable are cotton, silk and bamboo fibers?

Cotton, silk and bamboo are all incredibly strong fibers. To maintain their integrity and strength, these natural fibers need to be properly laundered. Heat is hard on silk and other natural fibers, so please do not over dry. Please see the Care instructions for each of your Yala® products.

Does a DreamSack® help prevent bedbug bites?

A DreamSack® adds an extra layer of cleanliness between you and the bed sheets. While silk is a very tightly woven fabric, bed bugs are attracted to exposed skin, so a DreamSack® cannot claim to prevent bed bug bites.
